Wonderful Falling Fruit work carried out recently by Sean in Co. Offaly and Carmen in Co. Wexford. Our Offaly Orchardist, Sean Hynes, picked another batch of apples for charity in his local area. Carmen Sanchez gathered some helpers and traveled to Wexford town area to harvest the apples donated by Pat Ganly. The apples are being preserved and can be shared with charities or other good causes.

Thursday Fruit Harvest Success
We had a wonderful day saving delicious eating apples from going to waste, all thanks to a great team effort! A heartfelt thank you to our kind donor, Ann, in County Westmeath, who generously offered the beautiful fruit from her tree. Together with fantastic volunteers, Claire and Rose, we managed to harvest crates of perfectly ripe, delicious apples. A special shoutout goes to the amazing Claire, who drove all the way out from Dublin to make sure this fruit didn’t go to waste! Not only did she help harvesting, but she also took care of many deliveries to ensure the harvest went exactly where it was needed most. Thanks to her and to Rose, the fruit has been safely delivered to:
Kells Family Resource Center, thanks to RoseMoat – for animals, thanks to RoseTrim Family Resource Center for the food bank, thanks to ClaireMorning Star Hostel in Dublin 7, thanks to ClaireRegina Coeli Hostel in Dublin 7, thanks to Claire Back into Daylight Animal Sanctuary, who will receive apples (on Saturday) from today’s harvest, thanks to Claire and to Jenny, a volunteer at the sanctuary

Todayβs Harvest! A day in Foxrock today, where we were warmly hosted by a lovely family who donated the apples and pears from their trees
Huge gratitude to our amazing team β Mary βO, Sue, and Mary Q β who worked hard in the unexpectedly warm sunshine to pick and save the fruit from going to waste
Special thanks in addition to Mary Q and Sue for delivering the fresh harvest to two local charities. And thanks to Sue too, who also dropped off the fruit that didnβt meet charity food standards to a local person who was delighted to make full use of it β zero waste, all appreciated!

Today, we visited Co. Wicklow for a special apple-picking session. A huge thank you to our generous donor, Phil, for welcoming us into his lovely garden. For two hours, we picked delicious eating apples!We are incredibly grateful to the wonderful womenβPatricia, Mary, Kintilla, Deirdreβwho traveled the distance from Dublin today to make this happen. Your hard work is so appreciated!

August 31st
Another good harvesting day, saving fruit from going to waste. First stop way Rathgar where our donors, Deirdre and Martin, picked and bagged some tasty plums. Second stop was Rathfarnham where our longest serving donor, Richard, once again kindly gave us access to a wonderful crop of cooking apples. Our amazing helpers, Helen, Deirdre and Bernie, picked the apples – 50 kilos approximately. The fruit was then delivered to Dundrum Family Resource Centre and SVP in Donnybrook. Some fruits that aren’t quite standard enough for our regular charity donations are shared with volunteers, elderly and keen bakers who can put them to good use. We delivered fruit to Mary and to Michael.

August 27th
This morning, apple-harvesting in Ballsbridge. Despite unexpected heavy rain, we successfully gathered approximately 20 kilograms of high-quality cooking apples.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our wonderful volunteers, Patricia and Celeste. They braved the rain and, unfortunately, got soaked while saving the fruit. Their resilience and dedication to preventing food waste truly saved the day.
We are grateful to Alison, who generously offered the delicious cooking apples. The 20kg harvest has been delivered to the SVP Centre in Donnybrook. Special thanks again to Patricia, who went above and beyond by taking care of the transport and delivery directly after the harvest.

Community action at its finest in Dublin this morning!
A tree that Orlaith Tunney had been keeping an eye on finally led to 25kg of fresh fruit delivered straight to local charities today, all thanks to a beautiful chain of kindness.
Here is how today’s harvest came together:
Having spotted this loaded apple tree many times from a nearby community garden, Orlaith went out of her way to drop a note about Falling Fruit through the door. 
Occupant Marcelina Horlescu found the note, phoned Bernie, and generously opened up the garden to our pickers. She had beautifully cleared the space for the work.
Volunteers Eugene and Bernie teamed up to pick 25 kilos of apples! Eugene delivered the fresh fruit to KARE Social Services in Raheny and to St. Anneβs City Farm.
A huge thank you to Orlaith for her persistence, Marcelina for her generosity, and our tireless volunteers Eugene and Bernie.

Big thanks to Sean Hynes from our Falling Fruit Offaly branch! Sean has been hard at work sourcing surplus fruit around Tullamore and harvesting it to support Clara SVP. A massive thank you to Sean for his time, and to the generous local tree donor for making this donation possible.

An earlier donation – special Mirabelleplums. Annette in Donnycarney offered several boxes of plums. Falling Fruit found a charity for them and Annette kindly picked and delivered them to St. Grabrielβs Meals in Wheels in Clontarf – a distance of 2.9 km.

First apple pick of the season today! Exciting! Two apple picks in fact. Doreen in Donaghmede offered her delicious ripe red eating apples, Theresa and Bernie picked approximately 25 kilos of apples and a small amount of plums. Most of the apples were delivered to KARE Social Services in Clontarf – local fruit, local charity. Plums will be put to good use in jams. Windfalls went to Dublin City Farm in St. Annes Park.
Fidelma in Phibsboro, a repeat donor, picked four boxes of cooking apples & delivered them to the Crosscare Cafe in Dublin 1.
