Volunteers Honoured with Certificate of Recognition at Mansion House
On August 12th, our volunteer team was invited to the Mansion House, where we were presented with a Certificate of Recognition by the Lord Mayor for our ongoing work in reducing food waste, harvesting surplus fruit and supporting food charities.
This certificate belongs entirely to our wonderful volunteers. Without their time, energy, and dedication, none of our work would be possible. This official recognition from the Lord Mayor is a direct testament to their hard work in local communities.The Lord Mayor warmly greeted everyone in attendance. While it was a celebratory and joyful day, we greatly missed some key volunteers who were unable to join us. They were all there with us in spirit!
Special Gifts for the Lord Mayor
To mark the occasion, we presented the Lord Mayor with two small gifts that showcase the heart of what we do:
Apple Juice: A bottle of apple juice, pressed from apples saved by our volunteers and organized through our partnership with FoodCloud.
Donaghmede Apples: A selection of fresh apples from our very first picking event of the year. This pick took place in Donaghmede, which happens to be the Lord Mayor’s own home area. With this we included a Falling Fruit form detailing the donor and the volunteers who picked the apples. This was to show how our project operates.

For several years we have partnered with a charity in Bunclody, Co. Wexford.
We now need volunteers to set up a Wexford Falling Fruit Group to help source, pick and deliver gleaned apples to local charities.

Good News!
Arising out of Wednesday’s post, we are delighted to announce that we have a new Falling Fruit charity partner in Waterford!
To kickstart this collaboration, we need your help with two things:
Start a Local Group: We are looking for volunteers to set up a Falling Fruit Ireland group in Waterford. We will provide the equipment and the knowledge.
Donate Apples: If you have apple trees in the county with surplus fruit, please consider donating them to us so they don’t go to waste.
Let’s make the most of the Waterford harvest this year!

We are planning ahead for the autumn harvest and need your help!
Every year our wonderful volunteers save thousands of kilos of surplus apples across Ireland.
We love getting fresh fruit out to local groups, but the sheer volume of apples means we need help to turn them into preserves, juices or processed fruit products, throughout the autumn for food charities.
We need community groups, social enterprises, or volunteer networks who can accept large quantities of apples and process them into shelf-stable goods to directly support local food charities.
What we are looking for:
Certified Kitchens: To meet health and safety standards, access to a registered/certified kitchen is highly preferable.
Processing Power: Teams or groups with the equipment and volunteers to wash, peel, and cook in bulk.
Charity Connections: Groups already linked with food banks or ready to distribute the final products.

Falling Fruit was featured on RTE’s Nationwide programme
We are hugely grateful to Niall Martin who created the Falling Fruit segment. Sadly he passed away before it was aired.
